In our business activities, we take people, the environment and society into account. Although the home of TROPICAL GREEN EXPORTS is in the capital Colombo, the two production sites are in the (poorer) north of Sri Lanka. There is a great need for gainful employment and thus for a (family) income. The vast majority of the workforce in north Sri Lanka are women (80%) who have been widowed since the civil war. Therefore, they have to guarantee their income on their own.
The company is persuing various goals. Those do not only include better working conditions, but also the environment conditions, such as housing, childcare and education for employees and their children. Drinking water and health care also play a major role.
With a fair income they can escape the cycle of poverty and offer their families and themselves a better life. These aspects should be kept in focus not only for direct employees on site, but also for the society in the region. Moreover, it wants to be an example for other entrepreneurs and investors, so that more companies may settle in this region.

Sustainable
For CAESAR SUSTAINABLE INVEST, a collaboration with TROPICAL GREEN EXPORTS quickly became obvious, because of sustainable entrepreneurship being of paramount value to both parties. At our partner’s production facilities spread over Sri Lanka, large quantities of coconut husk from a wide area are supplied and processed. This husk used to be a waste product, but now forms the basis for a sustainable end product of high quality. Among other things, it is very suitable to serve as a raw material for nature-friendly potting soil and substrates; it is ecological, efficient and clean. It is therefore also a very good substitute for peat, which means that the environment is much less burdened by its use compared to other produced peats.
Humanitarian projects
In addition to better working conditions, we also want to start humanitarian projects in the North Sri Lankan region together with the TROPICAL GREEN FOUNDATION. With that partnership, we want to offer opportunities for a better future in that region. Not only the employees and their family members can benefit from this, but also the local population. For example, a fully equipped computer room in the local elementary school will be implemented through this collaboration for the coming school year already. Also English lessons for all children of employees and suppliers will also be started at another location soon.
